Michigan Counties Project...  The race is on between Wisconsin and Michigan to see which state can be the first to boast a letterbox in every county. As of this writing, Wisconsin had 15 to go and Michigan was just inches ahead with only 14 boxless counties, all in the Lower Peninsula:

Alcona
Arenac
Gladwin
Ionia
Iosco
Jackson
Kalkaska
Mecosta
Missaukee
Montcalm
Montmorency
Oscoda
Sanilac
Tuscola

I put together a map which shows not only the boxless counties, but also gives links to information about the first letterbox planted in each Michigan county. It would have been a challenging personal goal to seek and stamp each "first in the county" letterbox, but some of these boxes are no longer active, so unless you already have found them, it wouldn't be possible, but it is still a nice historical reference. Check out the Michigan Counties Project here:

So if you are a letterboxer living in or near one of Michigan's boxless counties, what are you waiting for? Here is your chance to be a part of the state's letterboxing history and move us one step closer to beating Wisconsin to being fully covered with boxes!

Hmm.... I wonder how many states out there already do have a letterbox in every county. Connecticut, perhaps? Massachusetts? I'm pretty sure none of the west coast states are full yet. Is there anyone tracking this stuff?

The only county in all of New England that doesn't have a letterbox listed on AQ or letterboxing.org is Essex county in Vermont. Not to say that there's not one there, but nothing is listed on those sites.

Oh, I would be very surprised if most of the New England states weren't already completely saturated. Not only do they have way fewer counties in their states, but the hobby has been active there for much longer. I think some of them had a box in every county before Michigan even had its first letterbox!
